Goon Hockey History
History
Goon hockey was developed by the father-son-son trio of Chris, Tom, and Ned Johnston. The younger Johnstons were hockey players in their home state of Minnesota. With two kids playing, the rink was a second home and watching youth hockey games was as common as getting up in the morning!
Over countless hours in cold arenas, the Johnstons jokingly discussed how they would change the game of hockey to make it faster, better, and, ultimately, more fun. As the years wore on, the joking discussions became more serious, particularly as the number of youth hockey players dropped and the options for older skaters diminished.
In 2023, the discussions and jokes came to an end as the Goon Hockey League was incorporated, and the first game played.
